Workshop Overview
This professional development workshop is designed for advanced students and emerging professionals who are curious about, or actively preparing for, professional performance opportunities.
Participants will learn how to structure a professional set, refine stage presence, select appropriate music and costuming for different venues, and navigate real‑world performance and business scenarios with confidence.

- Advanced students preparing for their first paid performances

Prerequisites:
- Solid technical foundation in Raqs Sharqi
- Comfort with improvisation
- Prior solo performance experience (student showcases minimum)
- Ability to dance solo for 5+ minutes
What You’ll Learn
- How to structure a professional Raqs Sharqi / Bellydance set (entrance, classics, variety, props, interaction, finale)
- Music selection strategies for different venues and audiences
- Costume and presentation considerations for paid gigs
- Stage presence, projection, and performance confidence
- Audience engagement and boundary management
- Professional conduct, client communication, and basic pricing principles
This workshop emphasizes improvisation, musical and cultural understanding, adaptability, and professionalism.
Workshop Format & What’s Included
This interactive, movement-based workshop blends discussion, guided practice, and real-world application in a supportive learning environment. The experience includes:
- 5 hours of in-person intensive instruction, combining short lectures, guided discussions, and instructor-led dance activities
- Individual performance practice with personalized feedback, focused on professional readiness
- Scenario-based role-play drawn from real professional performance, audience, and client situations
- Costume show-and-tell with peer and instructor feedback
- Mock performance experience in a supportive setting
Participants receive a comprehensive handbook to keep, including:
- Professional set structure templates
- Sample playlists for different venues
- Gig bag checklist
- Sample contracts and pricing guidance
- Client communication scripts and booking checklists
Registration also includes:
- Dedicated group chat for pre-workshop preparation (approximately 2 additional hours of guided learning), networking, and ongoing peer support
- Ongoing networking access with fellow aspiring professional dancers
- Performance opportunity at a real venue on a later date following the workshop
Class size is intentionally limited to allow for individual attention and meaningful feedback.
About the Instructor
Jocelyne Khan is the owner and director of Duniya Studio and has over two decades of professional performance, teaching, and mentorship experience. Her work emphasizes musical literacy, cultural awareness, professionalism, and sustainable artistic growth.

This workshop provides foundational orientation and practical tools for professional performance. It is not a certification, but a roadmap to help dancers make informed, responsible next steps toward professional work.
