It’s a beautiful and respectful way to explore cultural music, movement, and history. At Duniya Studio, we teach more than just steps! We share context, stories, and the cultural essence behind the dance, creating space for learning and appreciation. We believe learning the music, history, and cultural context behind Bellydance makes the dance even more meaningful and enjoyable.

✅ Grace

Dance teaches you to move with elegance and control. The posture, isolations, and movements, work gradually help you develop an overall graceful presence. This applies not only in the studio but also in daily life! Dance helps us find our power, our glow, and our composure.

✅ Core Strength

You don’t need sit-ups when you’ve got shimmies and undulations! Bellydance naturally engages your abdominal, spinal, and leg muscles, helping to tone your core, improve posture, and increase stability — all while dancing to infectious rhythms and melodies!

✅ Balance

Bellydance encourages body awareness and coordination. It’s not about perfection, it’s about feeling good in your body and celebrating what it can do.

💫 Bellydance Around the World

Bellydance is known in Arabic as Raqs Sharqi, which translates to “Oriental dance.” This term reflects its traditional origins in the social and performance dances of the South-West Asian and North African regions (aka Middle-East). You may also hear the word Baladi, which means “of the country” or “folk-style,” referring to more grounded, earthy styles of dance. These terms highlight the rich diversity and cultural depth within the art form. We love to explore traditional Raqs Sharqi (some people refer to this as “golden era” as seen in Egyptian moveies from of the 1950s to 1970s) as well as modern styles seen on stages today in Egypt, Lebanon, and Turkey and on the international workshop circuit. We also love to include some theatrical Egyptian folkloric dance, inspired by the styles of the Egyptian Firqua Kaoumeia and Reda Troupe, or some socially-based folk styles, such as Lebanese dabke, or Egyptian magranat and shaabi.

💃 Ready to Join the Fun?

Whether you’re looking to move your body, meet amazing people, or reconnect with your personal sense of joy, Bellydance is a beautiful place to start.
