Opening Duniya Studio has allowed her to bridge her artistic side with her strategic vision, organizing skills, and tireless work ethic.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Jocelyne is known for organizing and supporting a long list of successful community dance initiatives in the Ottawa-Gatineau region, including:<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:list --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>directing the &#8220;Duniya Performance Group&#8221; (<em>website coming soon<\/em>);<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>hosting workshops with guest instructors;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>organizing open student dance nights at restaurants;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>producing multi-cultural dance theatre shows;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>assisting Denise and Ahmed Enan with bringing three tour groups of dance enthusiasts to Egypt;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>initiating the popular\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ottawagatineaushimmymob.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ottawa-Gatineau Shimmy Mob<\/a>\u00a0by organizing the first Bellydance flash mob event at Ottawa City Hall and Parliament Hill in 2015 and 2016; and,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>in 2016 and 2018 co-organizing, with Lisa-Marie Seraphin, the popular\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ottawasouk.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ottawa Souk<\/a>\u00a0(formerly known as the Ottawa Dancers\u2019 Bazaar which was initiated by Halyma\/Tracey Vibert).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Jocelyne is a member of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cid-portal.org\/site\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UNESCO International Dance Council (CID)<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cadaontario.camp8.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ontario Chapter of the Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists (CADA)<\/a>\u00a0and the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aqdo.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a0Association Qu\u00e9becoise de la Danse Orientale (ADQO)<\/a>. She previously served on the non-profit board of the Enan Egyptian Troupe, and with the executive of the Ontario Middle-Eastern Dance Association (OMEDA). She currently serves on the board of directors of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.humanicsinstitute.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Humanics Institute<\/a>, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting multi-cultural multi-faith tolerance. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (concentration English, minor Communications) from the University of Ottawa, a Certificate in Change Leadership from Cornell University, and a Masters in Public Administration (Management) from Dalhousie University.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>She trained in ballet, tap and jazz for 12 years, starting at the age of five, with the Elaine Hunter School of Dance, and as an adult has also explored classes in Indian Dance, Flamenco, Hatha Yoga, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrityayogadance.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nritya Yoga<\/a>, Ballroom dance, and Tai Chi. She joined her first Bellydance class in 1996, immediately moving to take several classes of per week with multiple instructors, eventually finding her way in 2001 to Egyptian style Oriental and folkloric dance under the instruction of internationally renowned Eyptian dance master instructor\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deniseenan.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Denise Enan<\/a>, a former principal dancer with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EgyptianNationalFolkloricDanceTroupe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Folkloric Troupe of Egypt<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/thenationalfolkloricdancetroupeofegypt.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Firqa Qawmiyya<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>She continues her training through workshops with master instructors in Canada and abroad, and over the years has enjoyed workshops with Hassan Khalil, Khriya Mazin, Mahmoud Reda, Raqia Hassan, Faten Salama, Nada El Masriya, Karim Nagi, Simon Sarkis, Raed Abdelghany, Sahra Saeeda, Cassandra Shore, Hadia, Jalilah Zamora Chamas, Amalia Maksoud, Aziza, and many others.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>To enhance her dance teaching skills, she has completed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.studiomouvance.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Studio Mouvance\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0<em>Formation des professeures de danse orientale<\/em>, and Hadia\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hadia.com\/training\/certified-instructor-training\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Oriental Dance Instructor Training<\/em><\/a>\u00a0Program. She has also completed academic training in delivering classroom instruction and facilitation techniques, and through her former 35-year career in the Canadian federal government\u00a0<span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4); font-size: 1rem;\">(she retired from the government in 2023)<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4);\">\u00a0has experience teaching and facilitating workshops on non-dance topics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Jocelyne has taught ongoing dance classes and special workshops since 2002 at various locations across the Ottawa-Gatineau region, as well as making a special appearance teaching dance classes on a Royal Caribbean International cruise in 2009. She has had students from teenagers to dancers in their 80s who have had knee and hip replacements, and enjoys the way that dance can bring together people from all ages and backgrounds.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>For many years, Jocelyne (under the performer name Jehane) was an Oriental Dance solo performer in Ottawa-Gatineau (2002-2018), as well as a member of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.enantroupe.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Enan Egyptian Folkloric Troupe<\/a>\u00a0(2002-2016) and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zaffeh.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Ottawa Zaffeh Group<\/a>\u00a0(2016-2017). She has performed across Ontario, Quebec, Prince Edward Island &#8211; and even once in Egypt! &#8211; as a soloist and with dance ensembles.
